Path

Born in 1957, Melício has lived in Lisbon since childhood. He lived and worked in different European contexts, including Paris, Milan, Hanover, Moscow and Madrid, developing an artistic practice marked by observation, technical rigour and formal freedom.

Sculpture and drawing

Sculpture occupies a central place in his work, with a particular focus on bronze and on the representation of the human figure. Drawing — graphite, charcoal, pastel and figure studies — is part of the creative process as a basis for formal construction, research into gesture and expressive depth.

Teaching and cultural activity

Throughout his career, he taught sculpture, ceramics and drawing, guiding students of different ages and backgrounds. He also worked as a cultural coordinator, curator, organiser of study visits and promoter of initiatives connected to art and education.

Public work and international presence

Part of his work is installed in public space across several Portuguese towns and cities, establishing a dialogue with territory, architecture and community. His work is also represented in international contexts and has been cited in studies, art books, dissertations and academic research.

Synthesis

Melício develops a singular visual language in which sculpture, drawing, material and human narrative intersect. His work asserts itself through consistency, figurative intensity and the capacity to create presence.
